Safety Measures When Using a Cloth Mask

Before the outbreak of Covid-19, only doctors, surgeons, and workers in dusty areas wore masks. However, wearing a mask is the new normal for everyone in the world in this Covid-19 era. The demand for face covers has hit a record high. And this has forced people to make their masks.  If you own a cloth mask, you have probably wondered how to use it safely. In this piece, we’ll list some of the safety measures when using a cloth mask.

Wash Your Mask Regularly

This is because it traps dust, germs, and viruses. Therefore, you should handle it like a regular mask. Wear it for a few hours, and when you remove it, wash it with soap and water.

Ensure Proper Handling

When wearing and removing a fabric mask, you should handle it with care to avoid contamination. Before you put on the cloth face cover, check if it’s dirty or damaged. If you notice any damage or dirt, do not use it.

Wear it Correctly

wear the mask correctlyThe cloth mask should go under your chin and over your nose. Always ensure that you wear it, as we have described for maximum protection. Do not leave any gaps on the sides. Also, avoid touching the inner or outer surface of the face cover as you wear it. If you must do so, clean your hands with water and soap for over 20 seconds before wearing the mask.

Change Your Mask Regularly.

Masks are bound to get dirty, depending on your environment. If you notice that yours is either wet or dirty, wash your hands and remove it. Use the straps to remove it. And avoid touching it on the surface that covers the nose and the mouth. Pull it from your face carefully and clean your hands once more.

Store it Carefully

If you’d like to use the mask again, store it in a clean and sealable plastic bag. When you want to use it again, wash it with water and soap. Experts recommend hot water to kill the germs. Never share your mask with others whatsoever.

If you observe the above measures, you will avoid wearing a contaminated mask that could cause respiratory infections.
